Spring’s here, time for a catchup!
Since John’s ‘Fortieth and Final Annual Inkberrow Exhibition’ last November, he has been busy with commissioned paintings. Some of these are in a place you can visit!
Four giant watercolours now decorate the walls of the newly renovated Pavilion at the Hope & Anchor by the river at Ross on Wye. A lovely place to break your journey, and when renovations are completed at the pub too, we expect a great place to stay.
You may notice John’s year plan is not as usual. It’s because he’s opted for the less pressured world of group exhibitions as opposed to one-man shows. This, alongside his commissioned work, should keep him happily occupied.
Privately commissioned work often takes John to unexplored places or gives new angles on familiar views so always a pleasure. Luckily, it seems to keep on coming.
We are very sad to report the death of our dear friend Alison Collins who’s Majlis Gallery in Dubai has been a big part of our lives for 30+ years. Leaving a gap in our lives as well as the year plan. Her unique contribution to Dubai art cannot be replaced, let alone equalled and her ‘stable’ of international artists are at present communicating on how to make tribute to her legacy by continuing her work in some way.
John keeps on painting more illustrations for his book of Malawi memories, which is still in the pipeline. Twelve years in that unforgettable landscape, the Lake, the light, the colour, the mountains, the wildlife, the people… All to be combined with eccentric tales contributed by friends who shared those happy times.
Now, as the pandemic subsides, we look forward to visiting major exhibitions of more famous artists, which we haven’t found time for in ages.
